We are aware of the different kinds of child abuse and of the signs and symptoms of these.
Should we have any concerns it is our legal duty as professional child carers to refer our concerns to the Local Authority Duty Officer and we would follow the Child Protection Procedures as set out in the following publication, a copy of which we have downloaded and is available on www.londonscb.gov.uk :- London Child Protection Procedures 4th edition (Apr 2011)
Please make us aware of any concerns you have about your child and notify us in writing of any accidents, incidents or injuries affecting your child.
Should an allegation of abuse, alleged to have taken place while the child is our care, be made against one of us, members of our family, or other adults or children in our setting who have had contact with minded children, we would follow the LSCB procedures and notify Ofsted.
PROCEDURE IF A CHILD GOES MISSING
We safely supervise children when we go out and undertake risk assessments. We teach the children about safety when we are out and tell them what to do if they do become lost according to their age and stage of development, e.g. stay where they are, meet up at a certain place. In the unlikely event that a child went missing, one of us would care for the other children and reassure them while the other would contact the police, provide a description and search the area for the missing child. Parents and Ofsted will be notified.
Staff will be alerted if we are in a public place, e.g. nursery, school, library, shop.
PROCEDURE SHOULD A CHILD NOT BE COLLECTED AT THE APPOINTED TIME
We expect parents to collect on time or to call if they are running late or dealing with an emergency situation. If the child has not been collected at the arranged time and we have not received any notification, we will try to contact the parents and the other named individuals who are permitted to collect the child. We will continue to care for the child while continuing to try to contact the parents/other named individuals, but if we have heard nothing after a couple of hours from the original agreed collection, we will inform the local authority duty social worker. If we have an important deadline, e.g. a flight to catch, we will contact the local authority immediately following unsuccessful attempts to contact the parents/named individuals.
